“Behave with others as you would like them to behave with you”
or its mirror
“Don’t do to others what you would not want them to do to you”
is it a golden rule of life – as I have read in many books of ancestral and contemporary wisdom?
or
is it an extremely egoistic thought, because it is egocentric, assuming that the other is like you/has the same needs as you? as Richard Bach proposes in The Reluctant Messiah (if I remember correctly… it’s been a long time).
This question made an impression on me at the time and it has stayed with me, like a guide.
What do you think about it? Maybe take a few moments to feel it before you give a definite answer.
